Chairman of ASUS Board Johnny Shih believes that the Taiwanese company will be able to significantly increase sales of its smartphones, and already this year in the top ten leading manufacturers of smartphones in the world.
"This year, our goal - to get into the top ten manufacturers of smartphones in the world. Our internal goal is much more aggressive. We strive to deliver this year, 25 million smartphones. Last year, we sold 8 million," - said Shih.
These figures, of course, not comparable with the results of such giants as the Korean company Samsung, which for the past year has put 318 million smartphones, and Apple, which for the same period sold 193 million smartphones. However, in the top ten leading manufacturers, there are those who have smartphone sales volumes are much more modest. For example, LG in 2014 sold less than 60 million units.
Shi said the growing popularity of unlocked smartphone, is a key driver of sales in developed markets such as the US and Japan. He argues that ZenFone is one of the top five smartphones sold on Amazon.
ASUS board chairman also told about the PadFone - a unique device 2-in-1 . This year, he will not receive the update.
"As smartphones are becoming more common, we do not have enough time to make the continuation of PadFone innovative . We need to become mainstream and are committed to the large sales volume , which is why from 2014 is a different journey for the ASUS", - he said .
However, he does not exclude that in the future, ASUS will release a new version of the PadFone.
"There is no doubt that ASUS impressive technical skills. The company is one of the most progressive manufacturers when it comes to hardware, but will it be enough, that is the question", - commented on the plans ASUS IDC analyst Bryan Ma ( Bryan Ma).
Add that on the eve within Computex 2015 ASUS has introduced a number of new products, including self-smartphone ZenFone Selfie with a 13-megapixel front camera and the first notebook-transformer Transformer Book T100HA on Windows 10. Related Products :
