A new report from the Korean edition The Korea Herald said that Samsung and LG amid falling income from the release of LCD-panels are going to increase production of flexible OLED-displays. Samsung Company expects growth in demand for flexible OLED-displays in 2016. As for LCD panels, in the past year the release of the South Korean giant has brought $ 131.4 billion, and this year is projected sources of income from their production will be reduced to $ 129 billion.
Samsung is optimistic about the prospects for OLED-displays. Earlier this year it announced the production of mirrored OLED-displays for smart TVs. And Samsung, along with LG commissioned by Apple supply OLED-displays for smart Apple Watch. According to experts, the income from the production of Samsung OLED-displays this year reached $ 11.8 billion, up 36% compared to 2014 year. Currently, the Korean company produces an average of 39,000 monthly OLED-panel, and the first quarter of next year, the production volume will increase up to 63 units per month.
One disadvantage of OLED-displays is, they are more difficult to manufacture than conventional LCD-panel, which increases their cost and can create some problems during mass production. Samsung, however, is not afraid of these difficulties.
To date, we have solved production problems. We are planning to expand the distribution channels of flexible OLED screens in accordance with the requirements of the market" - that what said executive director of Samsung Display Lee Chang Hoon.
