Recently, platform-independant free GIMP image editor turn 20 years old. His story began on 21 November 1995, when a student, Peter Mattis announced the release of the first beta version of the program.
GIMP (previously General Image Manipulation Program, is now - GNU Image Manipulation Program) was the first graphical editor for Linux and the best of its kind, in some ways surpassing even Adobe Photoshop. It was created first as a graduate student, but for two decades, has become an integral part of the Linux-community.
The program is still at the stage of beta had the ability to connect plug-ins. In 2006-2012 the program was reorganized.
