Intel company promised to begin the deliveries of 45 nm processors series Core 2 quad in the current block. It was considered that the hardware problem, could require the transfer of Yorkfield processor into new stepping, and became reason for the delay. But here only Core 2 extreme QX9650 (3.0 GHz) will pass to C1 stepping in the beginning of March.
On Intel concept , 45 nm processors Core 2 quad must be immediately released on C1 stepping , but here according to the data base Intel Processor Spec Finder, the existing processors Core 2 Quad generation Yorkfield relate to C0 stepping , in this case they had the CPUID value (10677h) from stepping C1 !!!!!!!!!.
Further checking allowed to understood that processors Core 2 Quad generation Yorkfield will belong to C1 stepping (for the models with 2 X 6 mb cache) and M1 stepping (for the models with 2 X 3 mb cache).
Their markings are enumerated below:
- Core 2 quad Q9550 (2.83 GHz, 2 X 6 mb cache) - > SLAWQ (C1);
- Core 2 quad Q9450 (2.66 GHz, 2 X 6 mb cache) - > SLAWR (C1);
- Core 2 quad Q9300 (2.5 GHz, 2 X 3 mb cache) - > SLAWE (M1).
Let us note that TDP value for all three models is equal to 95 W furthermore, in C1E state stepping C1/M1 processors consume 12 W of electric power, whereas the elder processor Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.0 GHz) stepping C0 not only has the higher TDP value (130 W), but also consumes 16 W in C1E state .
C1 stepping did not provide any changes in the electrical or thermal characteristics; however, we continue to hope for an improvement in the overclocking potential. Related Products :
