In September last year, Intel began to return the previously purchased company McAfee to an independent life. The controlling stake in the division of Intel Security was sold to the investment fund TPG for $ 3.1 billion. The other day, this deal was closed. Intel has formally lost control of the unit, as now the 51% stake belongs to the TPG fund. The division was also given the name McAfee, which will allow it to return to the security solutions market as an independent and recognizable player.
Over the years, as part of Intel, McAfee group has not helped the company to create completely hardware-based solutions to protect against viruses. At the moment, protection from viruses and a number of attacks on Intel platforms is carried out using the support of certain commands. It is possible that as part of Intel, the McAfee group could not create a hardware antivirus for the reasons that it would violate the laws.
At the same time, Intel promises not to lose touch with McAfee. The development of hardware antiviruses to protect all levels of computing platforms - hardware, BIOS, microcode, operating system, applications, networks and clouds - remains a priority for the company. Especially it becomes important with the beginning of distribution of things with connection to the Internet, which will be legion.
