Like all contract manufacturers of semiconductor products, Samsung continuously improves lithographic technology, and this week it announced the completion of qualification procedures for the second-generation 10-nm process technology, which received the symbol 10LPP (Low Power Plus). According to the Korean company, the new version of the technological process allows to increase the speed of transistors by up to 10%, and to reduce the energy consumption by up to 15% compared to the 10-nm first generation (10LPE) process technology.
It remains to add that the first generation of 10-nm process technology Samsung has given life to several mobile processors. Some of them are used in the latest flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S8, as specifies the Korean giant. Mass production of 10-nm processors using 10LPE technology was launched in October last year. Now 10LPP is ready for mastering in mass production.
Wishing to increase the volume of output of 10-nm products, Samsung begins installation of technological equipment at the S3 enterprise in South Korea. It will begin production of 10-nm products in the fourth quarter of this year. As representatives of the company explain, with the help of the process technology 10LPP will be made solutions used in the mobile and telecommunications sectors, as well as in the field of computer technology for various purposes. As you know, AMD will bypass this stage of evolution, planning to immediately master the 7-nm process technology.
