According to Electrek website, the full-sized prototype of the two-seater Lilium electroplane with the vertical take-off and landing function has recently successfully completed the first test flight. Flight control was carried out from the ground remotely.
In the current version, this powerplant is ready to offer displacement up to 300 km at a speed of up to 300 km / h. Given the lack of traffic jams in the sky, travel by air on such a "taxi" can take up to five times less time than on a car. The possibility of vertical take-off and landing allows you to do without long runways. The design of the electric plane implies the presence of 36 electric motors (12 at the front, and 12 pieces on each wing), which change the orientation of
the rotor axis depending on the direction of travel being set. The developers claim that the failure of one or more electric motors does not affect the functioning of neighboring ones. Such redundancy lies in the layout of the traction battery.
Moreover, the program of "active assistance to the pilot" warns him against the commission of dangerous maneuvers. On the level of energy efficiency in the horizontal sections of the trajectory, such an aircraft is comparable to an electric vehicle, as claimed by its creators. By the way, their number has gradually increased from four people to forty. The company's specialists are now embarking on the development of a more capacious version of the electric plane, capable of taking
on board up to five people.
