The market of discrete graphics adapters is inexorably shrinking . According to the results of the first quarter of the calendar year 2017, the sequential quarterly decline was 29.8%, and for the year the decline was noted at the level of 19.2%. The market for video cards falls after the decline in the personal computer market and falls faster than the volume of computing systems supply.
It should also be noted that when calculating video cards, adapters for non-graphic calculations, such as NVIDIA Tesla, are also taken into account, but their deliveries do not compensate for losses from the shrinking PC market. In total, there are 48 predominantly small suppliers of discrete graphics adapters on the market and in fact there are two suppliers of graphics processors (AMD and NVIDIA). The peak of video card shipments came in 1999, when around 144 million video cards were sold worldwide.
In 2005, this number dropped to 44 million video cards per year. In the first quarter of 2017, as calculations showed, the volume of shipments fell below the level of 10 million video cards.
The decrease in video card shipments recorded in the first quarter (by 29.8%) was 2.6% more than the average for the last ten years. The PC market decreased by 22.9%. In annual terms, the PC market in the reporting period decreased by 7.3%, while the drop in video card shipments for the same period was 19.2%. In the second quarter, as predicted (and based on knowledge of the cycle of the market), the graphics adapter market will continue to fall.
Leader of the GPU market and discrete adapters remains NVIDIA. In the first quarter, the share of deliveries of solutions with NVIDIA chips accounted for 72.5% of the market share, while AMD held a share at 27.5%. As follows from the data presented above, AMD improved year on year, although it deteriorated compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year. Related Products :
