Intel is still hiding from the public the announcement of Skylake-X processors with more than ten cores, as well as their technical specifications, although the prices are already called openly. All these changes in Intel's plans were made at the last minute.
Colleagues from the site Bits & Chips offered their explanation of the delay in the announcement of older models of Skylake-X. In their opinion, processors with more than 14 cores will need a new version of the LGA 2066 connector, which allows processors with a TDP level of more than 160 W. The existing revision of LGA 2066, allegedly, provides compatibility with processors of limited power and thermal package. The older Skylake-X models can get a TDP value of more than 200 watts, so there's no getting around the motherboards. Skylake-X versions with the number of kernels from 14 to 18 pieces will appear in six months, as the Italian colleagues are sure.
