Talking about the passage of 45 nm four core processors xeon on E0 stepping , we expressed hope that core 2 Duo and dual core processors xeon wolfdale generation will be also updated on new stepping.
Intel reported today about the transfer from C0 stepping on E0 stepping of the following processors models : Core 2 Duo e8400 (3.0 GHz), Core 2 Duo e8500 (3.16 GHz) and Xeon e3110 (3.0 GHz).
- CPUID Value will change from 0x10676 to 0x1067A;
- Support to the energy consumption level indicator ( PSI ) ;
- Support to PECI technology, which allow to control the fans speed depending on temperature;
- Support to two instructions (XSAVE/XRSTOR);
- Support ACNT2 function , which allow to determine the load degree of processor in order to determine precisely its energy state;
Most improvements are connected with energy consumption. It is not necessary for ACNT2 and XSAVE/XRST support to update the BIOS , but here for PSI , motherboard must correspond to some requirements. Actually, 65 nm processors core 2 Duo proposed PSI support;
Processors Markings will change as follows:
- Core 2 Duo e8400 (3.0 GHz): SLAPG (C0) - > SLB9J (E0);
- Core 2 Duo e8500 (3.16 GHz): SLAPK (C0) - > SLB9K (E0);
- Xeon e3110 (3.0 GHz): SLAPM (C0) - > SLB9C (E0).
The first processors models new stepping will appear already in the second-half of May. The deliveries of series processors E0 stepping will begin on 27 June.
