Intel company presented a new technology, which will allow computers to leave from the sleep state in response to a phone call from Internet. Currently , in order to accept incoming call, computer must be in the switched-on state which allow PC application to play the role of telephone but Intel considered this as unpractical and wasteful from the energy consumption point of view .
The new system component , announced by Intel yesterday, will allow the PC to automatically switch to the active mode in case of phone call. Computer can include microphone and loudspeaker, in order to notify the user, and then answer the call.
Intel motherboard with support to the function remote wake will appear in September. The first four models will be intended for desktop PC. Let us recall that, even a simple PC consumes not less than 60 W, but in case of high performance models this value goes to hundreds of watts. At the same time, in idle regime (S3) consumption is reduced to approximately 10 W.
