Many socket AM2+ or even Socket AM2 motherboards will work with socket AM3 processor, in the latter case some power special features and a certain part of speed will be disabled .
Deneb processors socket AM2+, as we already reported, can work only in socket AM2+ motherboard, or in advanced socket AM2 motherboards ( with two phase power system ).
The new functionality Of socket AM3 consists not only in the support of processors to DDR3-1333 memory. Processors in this design concept will obtain the more advanced mechanisms of temperature monitoring and voltage control . These processors can work with DDR-3 memory , which will already ensure a certain increase in the performance, according to AMD concept .
The first 45 nm deneb processors are proposed to work in motherboards on base of : AMD 790FX + SB750. Such motherboards can be equipped with socket AM3. In the second-half of 2009 the new high end chipset from AMD will become the chipset RD890 + SB800. The South bridge SB800 will propose support to the new serial ATA version with the data transmission speed 6 Gbit/s, and also some improvements in the sphere of clock frequencies control .
The announcement of RD890 chipset can take place in October 2009. However, The main AMD chipset in the summer of 2009 will become the integrated chipset RS880, which will become the evolutionary continuation of RS780 (780G). The integrated graphic core with directX 10 support will be improved, the energy consumption level will be lowered, and work functions with video will be optimized.
