We considered that AMD processors socket AM3, which guarantees support to DDR- 3 memory , will be presented only during March 2009, in the yearly exhibition ceBIT (Germany). Later we learned that the first processors socket AM3 can be presented already during February. Obviously, AMD tries to accelerate the introduction of DDR- 3 support .
AMD representatives in an interview acknowledged that the introduction graph of DDR- 3 support was actually accelerated . The global AMD purpose - to inject support DDR- 3 for phenom II processors to the middle of 2009, but in reality the introduction rates of socket AM3 can be accelerated . As explained AMD representative , announcement of socket AM3 processors can take place several months later after the release of first Phenom II, which is planned in January of 2009.
In this case the accessible processors in this design (AM3) will appear during April and June. They will have from four to two cores, and sold under the trade marks athlon X4 6xx (Propus), Athlon X3 4xx (Rana) and Athlon X2 xx (Regor). However, during February will come only the relatively expensive processors phenom II X4 9xx/8xx (Deneb) and phenom II X3 7xx (Heka), . Possibly, the fraction of phenom II processors Socket AM3 in the total AMD production will be originally small.
In the server segment the DDR- 3 support will be introduced in the first half of 2010, with the platform Marcello : processors Magny-Course and the six-core processors Sao Paulo socket g34.
AMD representatives also reported that phenom II X4 processors actually can be overclocked to 4.0 GHz with air cooling, and to 5.0 GHz with liquid nitrogen. Related Products :
