The four core processors Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (2.66 GHz) new stepping under the index" 7 "have got an improvements in its overclocking potential - Using air cooling the cpu was overclocked to 3.7 GHz. But meanwhile the representatives of this stepping was not able to beat the overclocking record of Kentsfield witch was 5.25 GHz ,cpu was from stepping B1 and cooled by liquid nitrogen .
The result from those new cpu with stepping b3 was very successful, there was many report proposed on the pages of XtremeSystems by t coolaler. In its hands was exactly the engineering model Core 2 extreme QX6700 on the base of the newest stepping B3.
The motherboard Asus P5B Deluxe with version bios 0706 again proved that not only it was capable to support the four core processors, but also to effectively overclock them.
Let us begin, perhaps, from the simplest record - the overclocking of processor with air cooling using Tuniq Tower 120 and vcore 1.53 V. stable working frequency with such cooling was about 3.8 GHz.
Actually, processor passed validation Cpu- z, at the frequency of 4.0 GHz, but tests at such speed cant be done. However, at the frequency of 3.9 GHz some test could pass .i want to recall that those result are from 4 core preocessor using air cooling only .
The replacement of air cooling unit by the single-stage "cascade" allowed to raise the frequency to 4.3 GHz, and under liquid nitrogen ensured the overclock to 4.8 GHz.
Reverse attention - the system bus frequency was equal to 480 MHz, this is amazing result for the four core processor. By the way, the overclocking of Kentsfield processor to 500 MHz on in the system bus was possible. using asus motherboard - Asus P5B Deluxe.
This motherboard allow to raise the multiplier to 12x, whereas some other boards in the current bios version made was not able. In other words, processors Kentsfield of stepping B3 allow wide space for overclocking experiments , and their entire potential is not yet studied.
