In the end of 2008,  NVIDIA released the GTX200 video chip on 55- nm process . New cards based on this chip use the r654 PCB, which is cheaper than R651 (used in 65 nm generation). In this case,  the number of PCB layers was reduced from 14 to 10 , also NVIDIA decided to get rid from volterra chips  .
NVIDIA planned to make the third generation GTX260, even simpler and cheaper. These cards will be built on the code designation p897/ D10U-20.
new GTX260 design
The reference design p897 for the GeForce GTX260 will become simpler and cheaper. The PCB of these solutions counts only 8 layers (instead of 10), the power-supply system is made by  4+2 NVVDD with regulator ADP4100 (without the interface I 2c for checking the supply voltage). The power circuit FBVDDQ is reduced from 2 phases to 1. The reduction also touched the mosfet block  , whose group now is DPAK, but not LFPAK.
The length of printed-circuit board will remain as before, Â its height will decrease by 1,5 cm. also the GeForce GTX260 third generation will get the reduced Bios EEPROM from 1 Mb to 512 KB and will be coupled with cheaper DVI .
All these changes will allow to reduce the prime cost … . by 10-15$ ??? Related Products :
