Intel company planned to release the itanium processors with the designation code tukwila in the beginning of this year, but at the last moment it decided to put off the announcement prior to the middle of the present year in order to improve their consumer characteristics.
The four core processors tukwila will be released on 65 nm technology, its crystal will include about 2 billion transistors and 30 MB cache, and also dual-channel memory controller . Intel is assembled to improve the processor characteristic - instead of DDR-2 support in the original version will be proposed a DDR- 3 support. The DDR3 memory support allows to increase the performance and the maximum supported storage capacity , but also will help to decrease the energy consumption.
The second change concerns the design concept of tukwila processors - it will be brought in a socket which will be used by tukwila successors , known under the code names poulson and Kittson. The first of them will be released on 32 nm technology and it will obtain more than four cores. The second is known also by a compatible motherboard , which can work with tukwila and Poulson processors. Related Products :
