Samsung electronics company officially stated about the mass production of GDDR5 graphic memory on 50- nm technical process. Mueez deen, leader of Samsung semiconductor division on graphic and mobile memory, said that the mass production of GDDR5 memory chips will help the company to satisfy the growing market demand for highly productive memory, graphic accelerators and also gaming consoles.
The maximum transmission speed for GDDR5 modules composes 7 Ghz. The bandwidth is located on the 28 GB/s level, for comparison GDDR4 is limited to 12,8 GB/s. The application of 50- nm technology allows to increase the production efficiency by 100% in the comparison with 60- nm technology .The new memory type will require 1,35 v, which will allow to consume up to 20% less electric power than GDDR4 . | ||
