During IDF spring 2009 high-ranking Intel representatives finally demonstrated the real chips larrabee, on the standard silicic plate standard size 300 mm. Series products were promised to the end of 2009 or to the beginning of 2010.
Larrabee is assembled to process graphic with the aid of small core with the x86- compatible architecture. From one side, this will make to solve many associated problems like the acceleration of calculations. From other sides, this will help developers to rapidly adapt their applications under Larrabee.
However, this approach has its deficiencies, indicated by the new scientific developments leader from NVIDIA, Mr. the Bill dally. Adherence to the x86- architecture in this case for Intel will result in high expenditures of crystal area . As we can judge from the photograph of first plate with larrabee chips , the core area of each is approximately equal to 300 sq. mm. This two times less than in 65 nm version chip GT200 from NVIDIA production. However, currently we can't compare those products on speed, and therefore, we can't estimate the effectiveness in the use of crystal area.
Mr. dally note that NVIDIA graphical solutions wait for bright future. According to him, AMD and Intel central processors in their development approach the limit, and the entire speed progress will be achieved by NVIDIA graphical solutions .
