Associate attempt to estimate the prime cost of new GPU NVIDIA, using as the starting point 300- millimeter plate from TSMC production with GF100 chips . From one plate, it is possible to prepare 94 chips GF100.
Customers have a selection between two versions in their calculations with TSMC. It is possible to buy plates wholly on lower price, but in this case it depends on the percentage of suitable chips. It is possible to buy chips, which passed checking, only. In this case, their price is above, but a customer does not disturb the percentage of suitable production. Â AMD and NVIDIA Companies use both versions, depending on the product. Source asserts that in case of GPU cypress and GF100, AMD and NVIDIA buy the plates wholly. One plate with 40- nm chips cost approximately $5000.
As asserts associate source, when  the first version GF100 (A1) was prepared,  on the plate came out only nine working chips, i.e., percentage of suitable chip was approximately equal to 10%, which made GPU cost more than $500 . Version A2 could not correct position, since it was possible to increase only the portion of suitable to 25%, which corresponds to $200.
TSMC experienced complexities with 40-nm technical process, the optimistic estimation of suitable GF100 composes  40%. In the second case, the cost of one chip GF100 will compose approximately $131, whereas AMD Cypress costs $96 (on one plate is placed 130 chips). If the percentage of  suitable chip succeeds to reach 60-70% (according to TSMC, this already occurred), NVIDIA will pay for each chip $77-87  and the cost Of cypress in this case will be lowered to $55-64.
