Intel company yesterday presented a revolutionary development. The technologies of information transmission on copper wires approach a limit of their high-speed possibilities, yes even the transmission of information up to great distances requires the use of intermediate active amplifiers. The transmission of information along optical channels can serve as alternative, but the existing solutions are characterized by high cost.
However, Intel proposes to use for the transmission of information on optical cable hybrid lasers, integrated at the silicon level. Technology reduces the cost of one port to one dollar, whereas the existing solutions on base of discrete lasers cost hundreds of dollars for port. The filtration of pulses allows to transfer by one optical channel immediately four signals. For example, the information transmission speed is 12.5 Gbit/s per channel and speed grows to 50 Gbit/s.
Developers assert that due to an increase in the quantity of channels and transmission speed it is possible to increase the capacity of the optical interface to one terabit per second.
As explain Intel representatives, the integrated hybrid lasers with the use of silicon will appear in the following generations of light peak technology. Related Products :
