Recently, we reported about the prospects of television systems based on organic light-emitting diodes , in particular, planned for release in 2012, 55-inch model from LG Display company. Also, we noted that the manufacturer intends to focus precisely on the production of large format OLED-TV , instead of small and medium-to portable electronics.
But how quickly the organic display will become cheaper than LED ? Executive Vice President of AU Optronics (AUO), which has been producing LCD based on thin transistors, offers without much optimism about the prospects of OLED-devices. In his view, the cost of large-size OLED for a long time will not be able to approach the cost of LCD at the same size. The reason for this is the low ratio of acceptable output.
Thus, a truly massive OLED-TVs will not be until 2014.
