Assocaite tested today the new intel processor Core i7-3960X : Sandy Bridge-E, with chipset Intel X79.
For comparison with Core i7-3960X were selected : Intel Core i7-990X, the current high end Extreme LGA 1366, six cores that operate at 3.46 GHz; Intel Core i7-2600K, top line of processors built on Sandy Bridge architecture ; AMD Phenom II X6 1100T.
First on the list of tests made by Futuremark PCMark 7. The official documentation is silent on the optimization of multi-threading, but given the fact that in all the tests Core i7-2600K is leading, we can assume that the benchmark is limited to four threads. Curiously, the difference between Core i7-3960X and Core i7-990X is virtually indistinguishable and is only 144 points:
In 3DMark 11 test, all participants demonstrate identical performance , and only physical test has placed everything in its place:
In Sandra 2011 we see the distinct advantage of Core i7-3960X over its predecessor . Especially the memory, demonstrating an increase in memory bandwidth by half in comparison with Core i7-990X :
In gaming applications, the situation similar to 3DMark 11. The results of all processor are close to each other and limited by the performance of graphics accelerator, GeForce GTX 580:
The definition of Sandy Bridge-E platform as a solution for enthusiasts is fully justified. LGA 2011 Processors in the majority of daily tasks will not bring phenomenal growth in productivity, while at the same time their cost will be far higher. Related Products :
