The European research consortium IMEC, whose headquarters is located in Belgium, is one of the world's leading centers for the study of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. LLaith Altimime - leader of research program IMEC, dealing with developments in computer memory, announced his vision of future changes in the industry of solid state drives. In particular, its predictions related to issues of transition to the use of prospective memory memristor (RRAM).
According to Altimime HP will be able to keep their promises, because the technology is by far, not so well developed, and most ITEC can not get to work correctly extensive tracts of RRAM. Nevertheless, he recognizes memristor future, however, the transition to them is not so sharp as HP says . In the near future, according to Altimime, most manufacturers of solid-state disk will use the so-called three dimensional memory, which implies the use of 3d-framed, processed on SONOS technology (silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon), compatible with NAND Memory.
Transition to RRAM will become a reality only when the semiconductor industry well-mastered 11 nm process technology, that is not earlier than in 2015 (Intel). Related Products :
