On the exhibition ceBIT 2007 AMD company presented the prepared for release graphic chip AMD r600.
The Vice President of AMD subdivision , occupied with the development of graphic chips and technologies, Bergman's Rick told about news In directX 10 GPU, in particular, he told some components about the interface HDMI in R600, and also about its decoder.
R600 should be considered as the following generation of ATI xenos GPU, utilized in Xbox 360. This is processor with the standardized architecture for the work with DirectX 10 and Shader model 4.0. This also first GPU with support of engine universal video decoding (UVD), which adapts hardware decoding MPEG-4 AVC/OF VC-1. This special feature of chip will allow to unload not only central processor during HD- video, but also sound card, since R600 has the build in HD-audio controller.
Comparison with previous GPU versions , R600 is suitable for HD-multimedia content, since the technology universal video decoding is capable of working with size 1080 blu-ray/HD DVD (MPEG-4 AVC) with bite rate up to 40 mb./s!. Previously this bite rate was limited approximately at 25 mb./s due to CPU bottle neck , as Bergman's Rick notes. Furthermore, UVD is capable to use two-flow video decoding , ensuring thus, the work of technology PiP (Picture in picture).
Bergmann also confirmed information about the fact that AMD prepares 65- nm technical process for the production of chip r600. This, let us recall, will ensure the consumption of energy 25-35 W in models on chip RV630 (market for notebook OEM) and 100 W for RV610 (basic market). Mr. Bergmann, noted that the release Of r600 is expected during April.
