We already reported about dynamic acceleration technology , which Intel plans to inject in mobile segment. Idea is very simple: if application is capable to effectively use only one processor core, its frequency will be automatically increased, and the second core at this moment will be set in rest state.
Recently appeared information, that this technology will be used in 45 nm mobile processors penryn and also in 65 nm processors merom with 800 MHz system bus, which will be released in the present month. The announced today new generation of mobile platform centrino (Santa rosa) brings immediately several technologies, directed to additional electric power saving.
We start from names. New mobile platform has two segments: professional (Centrino pro) and consumer (Centrino duo).
As it was planned, one core in turbo- mode will increase its frequency by 200 MHz. Merom processors of this generation have 800 MHz system bus frequency; therefore the change in clock frequency is equal to 200 MHz. All models with frequency from 1.8 GHz to 2.4 GHz are capable of increasing the frequency of active core by 200 MHz. TDP Level in this case remain within 35 W.
Merom processors with 800 MHz system bus has a partial second level cache switching off at idle time. Furthermore, they have a new active mode, in which the core voltage is reduced, and the system bus frequency decreases to 100 (400) MHz. At this state the processor can operate at 600 MHz frequency , economizing electric power.
Let us transfer official wholesale prices of processors merom with 800 MHz system bus:
- Core 2 Duo t7700 (2.6 GHz, 4 mb cache) - > $530;
- Core 2 Duo t7500 (2.4 GHz, 4 mb cache) - > $316;
- Core 2 Duo t7300 (2.2 GHz, 4 mb cache) - > $241;
- Core 2 Duo t7100 (1.8 GHz, 2 mb cache) - > $209;
- Core 2 Duo l7500 (1.6 GHz, 4 mb cache) - > $316;
- Core 2 Duo l7300 (1.4 GHz, 4 mb cache) - > $284.
We note that prices of merom processors with 667 MHz system bus will be lowered. Related Products :
