Hi! Just found this while searching for something on motherboard MOSFETs :) Great effort at testing them out but it\'d be great if there were links to larger versions of the photos - and the table doesn\'t seem to list which location exactly is at what temperature. While it does show that the Gigabyte board is at a lower temperature, imho it may not automatically mean the Gigabyte board is better - because we don\'t know what the exact temperatures of the actual silicon in the MOSFETs and NB are since they\'re under heatsinks. A hot heatsink and PCB could mean that either: 1) the actual components are running very hot 2) the heatsink and PCB are making good thermal contact with the components and doing a good job of removing the heat from the components. That\'s why we now have ondie thermal diodes - because external temperature measurements from heatsinks and PCBs may not be accurate. Asus boards have their Stack Cool design which conducts a lot of heat through the PCB, so the high temperatures on the Asus board could be because of that, while on the Gigabyte board less heat is being conducted away instead of being trapped in the component themselves. If you put a thermal insulator blanket all over the Asus board I\'m sure you\'ll get lower temperatures too! :) In short, there are too many variables to say that the Gigabyte (or Asus) board is better. Still, that was an interesting effort!

Considering, however, that Gigabyte\'s board has a sustained lower temperature on the backside of the board too your hypothesis is probably invald. This Gigabyte board is probably (and definitely looks better) than Asus.

The fact that Gigabyte\'s board has a sustained lower temperature on the backside of the board compared to the Asus board means nothing really, if you happen to know the respective board designs. Asus\' Stack Cool design is *meant* to transfer the heat to the back of the board via large copper fills connected vith numerous thermal vias. Hence, it is very much expected that the back of the Asus board would have an elevated temperature since that is precisely by design. In view of that, your assertion that the boards\' back side temperature has any significance, as well as that it is conclusive in deciding which design is better without additional data doesn\'t have much of a leg to stand on, unfortunately.
