Seagate is the oldest developer of the so-called hybrid hard drives that combine magnetic plates with solid-state memory. Currently, Seagate hybrid drives are already in the third generation, and the CES 2013 exhibition the company used to demonstrate their advantages.
Current Seagate hybrid solutions for laptops, using up to 8 GB of solid-state memory for speed can compete with the classical models of hard drives with the speed of 7200 r / min. Seagate hybrid drives speed is limited to 5400 / min. If we consider that the mass production of these products can reduce the difference in price to $ 10-20 per drive, the decision to abandon Seagate hard drive form factor of 2.5 with a speed of 7200 rev / min seems logical.
