Most face difficulties caused by icing or fogging of glasses with a sharp temperature changes. These phenomena complicate driving while interior has not warmed , or during rain.
Researchers have long been developing a coating that will help to get rid of these problems, but there are some difficulties. Hydrophilic coating absorb the small molecules of water and prevent moisture condensation , which greatly reduces their transparency. A hydrophobic coating, repelling large drops of water mist with temperature changes. Thus, to create a universal protection from adverse weather conditions and the coating should combine hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties.
Engineers created a hybrid coating, which consists of two polymer - polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyacrylic acid (PAA). According to inventors, polymers are well known and are cheap, you just had to put them together the right way. Development is funded by Samsung and the Foundation for USA Science Development .
