June thermal updates for AMD processors introduced the 89- watt version athlon 64 X2 6000+ and also presented the official characteristics of 65 nm sempron processors , whose announcement will take place during September this year. As is known, single core processors sparta will use a new notation models.
We start from the 65 nm processors sempron socket AM2, they will be based on G1 stepping , which is used in dual core processors athlon 64 X2 and athlon X2 (Brisbane) socket AM2. Perhaps sempron markings will be DE instead of DD.
We should note that the CPUID value in 65 nm processors sempron stepping G1 is equal 00070FF1h as in processors athlon 64 stepping G1, whereas in processors athlon 64 X2 stepping G1 it is equal to 00060FB1h. So , the marking in 65 nm processors athlon 64 and Sempron is identical - DE. In other words, the core sparta is the nearest relative to the core lima, witch is based 65 nm version athlon 64. For AMD it is sufficient to close a part of cache so the processor athlon 64 become a Sempron. :-)
In two AMD documentation , sempron (Sparta) models has the second level cache volume equal to 256 KB:
- Sempron LE-1150 (SDH1150IAA3DE) - > 2.0 GHz, 256 KB cache in the second level, TDP=45 W, Socket AM2;
- Sempron LE-1100 (SDH1100IAA3DE) - > 1.9 GHz, 256 KB cache in the second level, TDP=45 W, Socket AM2.
According to the preliminary data, there is no processors with 128 KB cache in the second level . AMD in next year planned to forget about the release of single core processors under trade mark athlon, such processor will be produced only under sempron .
This table allow to learn many electrical and thermal characteristics of 65 nm processors sempron. The temperature value tmax varies from 55 to 65 degree Celsius in one case, and from 61 to 75 degree Celsius in other. The upper threshold temperature is three or four degree lower than in 90 nm processors, which work at identical frequencies.
The vcore values in 65 nm processors sempron can be equal to 1.2 v, 1.30 v and 1.35 v. Their 90 nm predecessors with level TDP=62 W have higher values: 1.25 v, 1.35 v and 1.4 v. the 90 nm version of sempron processors with TDP level not more than 35 W have only two vcore values : 1.2 v or 1.25 v.
In minimum energy state both models sempron lE-11x0 operate at frequency 1.0 GHz with vcore 1.1 v. TDP level in this case is equal to 22.8 W or 23.3 W respectively.
According to the planned production update program , even now AMD almost completely forget about the production of 90 nm processors; however, their deliveries will be prolonged as minimum to the end of this year. Sempron processors on 90 nm core manila will be removed from production in the end of the second or third quarters 2007. 65 nm processors sparta are already ready to get in budget segment .
