Innodisk Company - developer of solid-state drive industrial purposes - has developed a software algorithm that converts flash memory type NAND MLC with the ability to record two bits in each cell in the memory type NAND SLC record a single bit in the cell. This allows to take advantage of the one-bit memory without overpaying for the present SLC-memory. This development was named iSLC.
The essence of development is that both sites to record information in a normal cell NAND MLC microcode considered as a common area for recording. In other words, instead of two bits of data per cell MLC recorded one bit: each of the two zones is given the same state. This increases the delta charge between the maximum and minimum possible levels of charge in the cell. . Estimated by Innodisk, normal NAND MLC mode iSLC increases by an order from 3 thousand erase cycles to 30,000 cycles.
In addition to increasing the durability , the company reported about increase of memory speed iSLC taken in relation to MLC.
According to latest DRAMeXchange information , the price of 16-Gbit NAND SLC (Samsung) comes to $ 10.45, while the price of 32-Gbit NAND MLC - $ 5. If we take these extreme positions, the cost of 16-Gbit iSLC Innodisk $ 5 (algorithm to halve the capacity of 32-Gbit chips). It turns out, drives through iSLC may be half the price of present drive on SLC-memory moderately inferior to them in durability and performance. Related Products :
