HGST company (formerly Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, in the now - a division of Western Digital) introduced a hard drive Travelstar 5K1500, which, according to the manufacturer, is the industry's first storage capacity of 1.5 TB size 2.5 inches 9.5 mm. It is characterized by the maximum storage density in the industry. Travelstar 5K1500 drive is also characterized by a high degree of protection from shock, low power consumption and high performance. Among the application areas - laptops, external hard drives, gaming consoles and desktops one-piece assembly. The drive uses three platters , due to which managed to increase by 50% compared to today's 1TB drives. In idle mode power consumption of the drive is only 0.5 watts. Spindle speed is 5,400 r / min. The drive features 32 MB cache and a SATA interface 6 Gb / s. The new Travelstar 5K1500 hard drive will be also available in Enhanced Availability (EA) version, optimized for use in servers, network routers, video surveillance and other applications with non-stop data access.
