Google has acquired a 6.3% percent stake in unit Himax Display, owned by Himax Technologies. The company is developing advanced display technologies, in particular, Himax Display has developed a wearable computer display Glass. The cost of the transaction were not disclosed.
It is known that the funds received from Google, will be dedicated to the production of projectors using LCoS technology (liquid crystal on silicon). Thus Himax Display will be able to increase their output to a level sufficient to display Google Glass for the mass market.
Google has become one of the key shareholders of Himax Display, along with companies such as Intel, Khosla Ventures I LP and KPCB Holdings. In this case, the Internet giant reserves the right during the year to increase its stake in the share capital of Himax Display up to 14.8%.
