The Japanese manufacturer now wants to focus on the release of chips for the automotive industry.
Renesas Electronics company is going to close the factory in northern Japan, engaged in production of chips for consumer electronics, including game consoles, Nintendo Wii. Attempts to find a buyer were unsuccessful, and the company decided to close. About 1,000 employees get new jobs or leave on their own, depending on their choice.
Renesas has been negotiating with TSMC on the possibility of buying this factory, but the latter refused this transaction. By the end of September, Renesas get capital injections from the state fund of $ 1.53 billion, so the company is interested in optimizing some of its assets.
