The processors windsor stepping F3 already showed their  overclocking potential. With the default air cooler, supplied in the complete set with athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0 GHz), they were successfully  overclocked in most case to 3.3 GHz. More powerful air cooler allow some processors to overclock up to 3.4-3.5 GHz, at 3.6 GHz frequency it was possible to take a screen shot. Finally, under Freon these processors sometimes reach 4.0-4.1 GHz. We have not expected anything special from the processor athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) in plan of its overclocking potential   . The name Black edition allow to consider this processor as special, but there is no much frequency to expect from the 90 nm technical process . If the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0 GHz) recently got the 89- watt version, then Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) has a TDP level  not more than 125 W. The first overclock attempts Of athlon 64 X2 6400+ were in the forum xtremeSystems. This processor was able to clock up to 3.3 GHz frequency using the default air cooler from Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and using the vcore voltage 1.4 v. water-block and 1.504-1.520 v  allowed to raise the frequency up to 3.5-3.6 GHz, in this case the system did not lose stability under load. Finally, Peltier's module cooled this processor to the temperature 5-6 degrees ( higher than zero ) , and with voltage more than 1.6 v it was possible to take a screen shot at 4.0 GHz frequency  , and  also to pass CPU- Z validation . The concrete processor copy has a cold bug with temperature value - 4 degrees lower than zero .   Related Products :

i have a question. when i overclock my a64 x2 6400 cpu to a little under 3.4 the buslink stays high in the 1050 ish range. but when i overclock it well into the 3.45 range the bus lnk goes down to 750-800 ish. what does that mean. can someone cure my curiosity. thanx Athlon 6400x2 w/ copper zalman asus mobo ati 580 chipset crossdfire 4 gig g skill 555-15 ram dual HIS hd 2600 xt graphic cards with copper zalmans on both 250 gig sata2 16 mb cashe i like it

This is due to the HT multiplier. witch is set to 2000 mhz max in all AM2 motherboard . here is the example : 3400 mhz = 262 x 13 || HT = 1050 or (2100) with 262 x (4) x 2 --> 4 is here the Ht multiplier . since your motherboard support max 2000 mhz then your motherboard has to set the multiplier to 4x . 5x multiplier will result in 2620 witch a lot higher than 2000 and 3x will result in 768 witch is very low. so the best option here is the 4X. Now when u do 3.45 : 3450 = 266 x13 || HT = 789 or (1596) with 262 x (3) x 2 --> 4 is here the Ht multiplier . with 4x your ht bus will be equal to 2128 witch is higher than 2000 mhz . so your motherboard use the 3x multiplier. Hope all is clear

	thank you for that feedback. yes it is clear. i cant wait for the new am2+ cpu. i hope a bios flash will let me use it to if fullest capability. these old 90nm cpu had a strong run. time for k10
