The compatibility problem of socket AM2 motherboard with socket AM2+ processors was discussed repeatedly. Strictly speaking, there is no problem. The owner of old motherboard will be deprived from hyperTransport 3.0 system bus and also had to be satisfied by the less flexible power system . Last factor not only will affect the energy consumption level , but it can insignificantly influence also the processor speed . However, as a whole there are no problems with the compatibility of new processors and old motherboards it will sufficient only to update the BIOS.
Asus company yesterday published the list of motherboard from its own production, ready to support socket AM2+ processors . Simultaneously Was announced the first motherboard with support to AMD processor socket AM2+, which got the name Asus M2A-VM (AMD 690G). After BIOS update, it is possible to ensure socket AM2+ processors support in the following motherboard models :
- Asus CROSSHAIR (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI);
- Asus M2A-VM HDMI (AMD 690G/SB600);
- Asus M2N32-SLI premium vista edition (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI);
- Asus M2N- E SLI (NVIDIA nForce 500 SLI);
- Asus M2N32-SLI deluxe/wiFi AP (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI);
- Asus M2N- E (NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra);
- Asus M2N32 WS professional (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI);
- Asus M2N-VM DVI (NVIDIA geForce 7050PV/nForce630a);
- Asus M2N-SLI Of deluxe (NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI);
- Asus M2R32-MVP (AMD 580X CrossFire).
Asus explains, that this list will be enlarged. Newly dispatched motherboards with socket AM2+ processors support will be supplied with special label on the box.
