According to the report of IHS analysts, shipments of computer storage - hard drives, solid state drives and devices for reading optical drive (ODD) - last year decreased by 5%, despite almost doubling the sales of SSD. This is due to declining demand in the HDD and ODD.
Total for 2013 was 755 million storage systems, which is somewhat lower than in 2012, equal to 794 million. Volumes of supplies of hard disk drives fell to 7% - from 475.4 million to 444.4 million - compared to the year before last, and, according to forecasts, in 2014 the number dropped to 428.1 million.
For 2013 were sold 253.5 million optical disc drives, which is 12% lower than in 2012. This year is predicted another decline - to 226 million units. Characteristically, sales of SSDs rose from 31.3 million to 57 million units, or 82%. This year's growth will continue, to 85.8 million units.
