Avago Company announced that a new generation of memory Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) will apply own designs Serializer / Deserializer or SerDes with a capacity of 30 Gbit / s. According to a press release, the license to use the relevant decisions of the company received Micron, which will be releasing new modules HMC.
SerDes converters are widely used in high-speed communications to compensate for the limited I / O resources. SerDes consists of two units: PISO (parallel input, serial output), where the data is converted into a sequence and transmitted over the link and SIPO (serial input, parallel output), where the resulting sequence is returned to the source, parallel form. Using SerDes minimizes the number of affected I / O contacts, which, in turn, simplifies the design and reduces the cost of the final solutions.
Avago and Micron did not specify exactly how the SerDes converters to be used in HMC.
