In the world of computer games, John Carmack is a legendary personality without exaggeration - being one of the founders of Id Software, he had a hand in the creation of Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM and Quake, games that defined the canons of the genre first-person shooters. Carmack subsequently decided to send their engineering talents in another direction and in 2013 left the Id Software for work on virtual reality device Oculus Rift.
I must say, the relationship with Carmack Oculus VR began at 2012. At the request of the founder of Oculus VR, Palmer Lucky , Carmack developed software, which became the foundation for the further development of a virtual reality helmet. This has resulted in complaints from Zenimax company , which owns Id Software.
According Zenimax, everything Carmack developed, as a member of Id Software, is its intellectual property. Earlier Palmer Lucky Zenimax recognized rights and signed a confidentiality agreement prohibiting the transfer of appropriate technologies to third parties without the necessary approvals. The reason for the acute anxiety was a deal between Oculus VR and Facebook - Zenimax considered a violation of previous agreements.
Of course, Oculus VR does not recognize claims by Zenimax .
