Today appeared new data about the chipset intel x48, which help us to understand its destination. If the chipset intel x38 can be considered as the components of server platform due to ECC support , then this function is not provided for Intel x48. In addition there will be no DDR-2 support. The expensive and rapid DDR3 memory is excellent for intel x48.

The DDR 3-1600 memory will be supported by this chipset with the use of XMP expansions , and only in two slots DIMM . Memory voltage in this case must be increased to 1.8 v. This chipset support also the regime 1066:1600 memory frequencies / FSB ; therefore with the use of 1600 MHz system bus processor it will be possible to exploit memory in the regime DDR 3-1066.

According to some data, the announcement of chipset intel x48 can take place already on the second week of November, i.e., simultaneously with the first penryn representatives . Let us note that Core 2 Extreme on 45 nm core yorkfield will operate at 3.2 GHz frequency , TDP level in this case will reach 136 W. Supposedly, this processor will exist in versions with 1333 MHz and 1600 MHz system bus simultaneously.
