AMD has released an official press release in which it announced the expansion of partnerships with the company Synopsys. The latter is one of the leading developers of integrated software for the design of electronic circuits for further production of the most advanced process technology. In Synopsys tool set also includes a library of ready elements and standard parts, which greatly speeds up and facilitates the engineering of new solutions. As calculated in AMD, a collaboration with Synopsys will complement the library for its proprietary chip design standard elements and modules. In other words, in packages Synopsys will be things that will be created directly by AMD engineers, which will accelerate the development of the central and graphics processors.
New multi-year agreement between AMD and Synopsys has several facets. Firstly, AMD accesses license property Synopsys, including an interface, memory compiler, libraries of digital and analog components on the basis of FinFET-transistor process technology applied to 16/14 nm and 10 nm. Secondly, the company buys the rights to Synopsys Interface AMD and employs 150 engineers to adapt their tools to the requirements of the partner. The total amount of the transaction were not disclosed. AMD has only reported that in the fourth quarter of this year for the purpose of capital expenditure will be spent from $ 420 to $ 450 million. As a result, AMD will get the tools to develop new solutions that will significantly improve the efficiency of the designers.
Separately from the above, we can conclude that AMD will continue to work with the company TSMC (see. 16-nm process technology). Bet only on one company GlobalFoundries (14-nm process technology) is not justified.
