Intel has signed an agreement with China's Tsinghua Unigroup, under which the latter will receive an investment of $ 1.5 billion. It is noted that Tsinghua expects to get access to some of Intel technologies , which could contribute to the improvement of its own decisions, while the processor giant intends to expand its presence in the Chinese market due to the newfound partner.
Tsinghua Unigroup is a subsidiary of Tsinghua Holdings, a Chinese state corporation funded by Tsinghua University. The company controls the company Spreadtrum Communications and RDA Microelectronics, involved in the development of various semiconductor solutions. Previously, we reported that Intel may start cooperation with Spreadtrum on mutually beneficial terms.
Under the agreement, Spreadtrum together with Intel will manufacture and sell the system-on-chip based on the x86-based architecture. First matching products should appear in the second half of next year. Incidentally, the relationship with Tsinghua can give Intel support from the Chinese government, which in turn will attract more giant local producers and strengthen competitive position against Qualcomm and MediaTek.
It is worth noting that the deal will be concluded after obtaining permission from the antitrust authorities.
