In official AMD site yesterday appeared the press release and the description of new product characteristics , we deal here with FireStream 9170. This product is aimed for the specialized accelerators market , where the heart is calculations, data processing, financial analysis, engineering calculations, rendering, chemical or physical calculations, genetic research, editing video and image processing in security systems. From the available data on FireStream 9170 we can understand that it is based on 55 nm chip with 320 streaming processors, and this is a direct indice about the use of RV670. On this specialized video card we have 2 gigabytes memory GDDR-3. According to manufacturer, FireStream 9170 is the first video chip based product in the world providing double precision floating-point calculations. The calculations speed with single precision reach 500 GFLOPS. It is assumed that the calculation with renewed precision occur in the half rate, this is why one calculation takes twice as much video chip time. It is also known that RV670 chip in this card works at 775-800 MHz . TDP level do not exceed 150 W  given the peak performance of 500 gigaflops. To the work with FireStream 9170 , AMD recommend the use of power supply capacity of at least 500 W. Toolkit for software developers will be available in the first quarter 2008.
