Corp. Apple, as reported by AppleInsider, acquired Coherent Navigation. The acquisition, according to observers, will allow Apple to improve its mapping service, introduced in iOS and OS X in 2012 to replace Google Maps. Coherent Navigation Co-founders Paul Legault , Bence William and Brent Ledvina have indicated in their profile on LinkedIn as the current job: Apple.
Reasons for the acquisition as well as cost and other details of the deal are not yet known. But given that the Coherent Navigation specializes in high-precision GPS-navigation, it is a developer of technology High Integrity GPS (iGPS), and has a whole package of patents, probably its achievements Apple wants to use to improve their maps.
It is expected that Apple will introduce an updated mapping service Apple Maps on the World Wide Developers Conference WWDC 2015 which will be held in early June in San Francisco.
