A few weeks ago the site CPU World has published the first information about the Intel Xeon server processors generation Skylake. This platform codenamed Purley chipset Lewisburg. In short, as a part of Xeon Skylake will be up to 28 cores with support for Hyper-Threading, 6-channel memory controller DDR4, optional interface Storm Lake Fabric, 2 or 3 lines UPI interface and PCI-Express 3.0.
It is reported that on the base of Skylake will be three processors versions : Skylake-EX, Skylake-EP and Skylake-F. All solutions prepared LGA-connector Socket P0 to 3467 contacts. New connector LGA2011-3 longer and takes place on board 76 x 51 mm or 76 x 56 mm. All processors, as mentioned above, support DDR4 memory, the interface UPI and have 48 lines of PCI Express 3.0. Six-channel memory controller supports up to two modules DDR4-2400 channel or one channel DDR4-2666 module. Lines UPI support baud rate of 9.6 or 10,4 GT / s. Interface UPI, more precise, there is a change in the interface of QPI.
Models Skylake-EX processors are designed to create 2-, 4- and 8-way configurations. These solutions have the most lines UPI - 3 pieces. Consumption Skylake-EX in maximum configuration will reach 165 watts. Skylake-EP processors will carry up to two lines of UPI. They focused on two-processor platforms. Meaning TDP Skylake-EP for energy-efficient platforms will be in the range of 45-80 watts for conventional server platforms - up to 145 W and workstation - up to 160 watts.
Processors Skylake-F will be a multi-chip package, when on the same substrate will be located the processor chip and the controller of the new interface Storm Lake. Features Skylake-F are essentially identical characteristics to Skylake- EP.
All models Xeon Skylake generation chipset will be equipped with a series of C620 (Lewisburg). The composition of the C620 will change. In general, the solution has four Ethernet ports 10 Gb / s, up to 14 ports USB 2.0, of which 10 can be configured to support the USB 3.0, 14 SATA ports and up to 20 lines PCI Express 3.0. In addition, the new bridge supports a number of improved technologies for data protection, including the development coding and decoding. It is expected that the platform Intel Purley begin their lives in 2017.
