A little more than a week ago there was information about NVIDIA graphics architecture in the next generation - Pascal will use GDDR5X  instead of HBM 2 memory  .  More specifically, support will have video card memory GDDR5X mass level, while the top-end solutions can be armed with HBM 2 memory. Memory GDDR5X is not industry standard. In fact - it is improved GDDR5 memory .  Mass production of GDDR5X memory   Micron company plans to begin the second half of next year, so that products from its use can be expected in about a year. The main advantage of GDDR5X GDDR5 is that the internal bus data prefetch unit in GDDR5X twice wider than GDDR5  is equal to 16 bits.  This allows the memory GDDR5X operate with 64-bit samples per cycle instead of 32-bit in the case of GDDR5.  Due to this, the memory GDDR5X at the first stage will reach capacity at the level of 10-12 Gb / s vs. 7-8 GB / s of memory GDDR5, and in the future - closer to the threshold speed of 16 Gbit / s.  This will cover the difference in performance between 1 and HBM GDDR5X.  Also GDDR5X memory will run at reduced supply voltage - 1.35 volts instead of 1.5 volts for GDDR5.
