Around the purchase of AGEIA by NVIDIA company , which was formally completed yesterday, arose different ideas. And only NVIDIA representatives commentaries allowed us to understand that the new owners will take from AGEIA only PhysX engine program , which will be adapted for accelerating physical effects in games using NVIDIA video chip .
This idea appeared at the yesterday's conference with chapter NVIDIA, Mr. (Jen-Hsun Huang). Answering questions of analysts about the transaction concerning AGEIA, it explained, that NVIDIA task is the transfer of physical engine PhysX to the CUDA program platform . The latter, can support all graphic chips GeForce 8xxx family .
NVIDIA consider that the appearance of physics accelerator in video chip will considerably increase demand for video card. The popularity of multi-chip configurations will also grow.
PhysX Transfer to CUDA platform already began . Each video chip, which supports CUDA ( all series GeForce 8xxx and newer), will be able to work with the physical engine NVIDIA. Most likely, all owners of such video card will obtain access to physics acceleration via simple driver update .
