Yesterday Intel company described the basic architectural update, which will be used in nehalem generation processors . Let us try to transfer the basic update, which will have the greatest effect on performance.
We start from nehalem buffer size witch was increased from 96 to 128 micro-instructions in comparison with penryn generation processors . Thus, nehalem processors will possess higher operation speed with equal frequencies (Penryn). Accordingly, Intel will increase the buffer size , in which are achieved instructions from first cache level .
Nehalem processors generation will have from two to eight cores, in this case each core will support multi-Threading technology . Witch will allow core to process two thread at once. Intel will return to the hyper-Threading technology in its more effective and more up-to-date version. The 8 core processors version will contain 731 mln. transistors.
Work with cache will be optimized. The cache structure of the first level will not change in comparison with Penryn: 32 KB for instructions and data respectively. But here the cache in the second level will be individual for each core, its capacity is limited to 256 KB. The third cache level will be divided, its capacity will reach 8 mb.
Nehalem will get the TLB- buffer in the second level, which will allow to effectively work with memory. The memory controller will be integrated in the processor. It can be both dual- and three-channel. It support DDR 3-800, DDR 3-1066, DDR 3-1333, moreover servers processors will work with registered memory modules.
Sequential system bus QPI will be used in multi-chip systems for connection between processors, single-processor systems will use QPI for communication of processor with the north bridge.
Nehalem processors will support SSE 4.2 expansion and dynamic control energy consumption technology . The announcement of first processors nehalem generation , which relate to the upper part of desktop and server segments, is planned to the fourth quarter this year. It is completely possible that computers producers will begin to obtain nehalem processors in the third quarter.
In the first half of 2009 dual core processors havendale will obtain the integrated graphic core ( class g45 ). Related Products :
