The first references about AMD chipsets RD890, RD880 and RX880 relate to IGP-chipset AMD 7 series.
The special feature in chipsets AMD RD890 and RD880 will be the presence of IOMMU (input/output memory management unit) : memory control unit .  IOMMU Element as logic system , support the addressing mode with memory mapping witch is encountered only in server equipment ( high-end level ). IOMMU Unit is connected with the system bus input/output with direct access and with PC memory . It reflects the addresses of virtual space in physical addresses region similar to the work of corresponding unit in the central processor. However, only few applications, utilized in desktop PC, can obtain profit from virtualization technology (chipset unit IOMMU ). In order to compose more competition to NVIDIA solutions , AMD company will present the intermediate between RX880 and RX780 chipset : RX780H. It is compatible with AMD 770 and AMD 790X and it will be one of the first solutions with directX 10 support . This spring AMD will release the chipset 790G, which will contain the built-in graphic core with directX 10 support . AMD RD890 and RD880 release is expected only in 2009. Related Products : | ||
