AMD will not release a replacement to its 790FX chipset or SB750 south bridge up to the fourth quarter 2009. Earlier many expected to see new chipset at the end of the second quarter 2009 on computer exhibition computex (in Taiwan)
The new chipset RD890 will support many technologies such as : HT3, 2x16PCIe or 4x8 with the second generation PCIe and also the extended support Of quad crossfire X 4x8. The South bridge SB850 has at its disposal all SB750 capabilities, such as Gigabit MAC, AHCI 1.2, and also, the second generation PCIe 4X. Up to the fourth quarter 2009 AMD 790FX and AMD 790GX will remain the only chipset, which work with phenom processor on socket AM3, at least, until the release of RD890D. | ||
