EE Times website interviewed experts believe that this year NVIDIA will present a renewed image generation Pascal, which will not use HBM2 memory type. The latter will appear along with Volta architecture supports in 2018, although we should not forget that both boosters Tesla computing based on GPU GP100 HBM2 type of memory is used, therefore it is impossible to say that NVIDIA behind the competitor in this field. Such a statement would be true only in relation to the gaming segment.
Updated Pascal solutions will be released in still 14-nm process. If we talk about the difficulties of mass production of graphical solutions with memory type HBM2, now AMD is actively working to increase the level of product yield, using the so-called "2.5D-layout", as well as to expand the circle of contractors involved in the process. All this will help increase the output volume and somewhat reduce unit costs.
